Last night I went to see MBW co-host, and productivity sensay Merlin Mann with OmniNerds Ken Case and Ethan Schoonover at Tekserve in NYC. They came to demonstrate the unbridled power of OmniFocus (which is still in alpha). Created to compliment & support the principles behind David Allen’s Getting Things Done
, it’s a sophisticated yet easy-to-use organizational tool that I’m still coming to grips with. Here’s a snip about the product:
OmniFocus is a personal task management system, designed to quickly capture your thoughts and allow you to store, manage, and process them into actionable to-do items. Tasks can be assigned to projects and stored within contexts (for example: “Home”, “Work”, or “Garden”), with built-in visual cues to highlight the next action you need to take care of. With OmniFocus, you can narrow your field of concentration to only those areasÃ?¢ââ??‰â?¬Âtasks, contexts, projectsÃ?¢ââ??‰â?¬Âyou wish to view, which helps you stay on track and organized.
The power trio demoed the software with some “real-world” scenarios and it was great to see it in action. If you have the time or inclination, head on over and sign up to get in on the alpha testing (beta soon?), kick the tires, and see what you think! I’ve been using for a couple of months, but after the demo, I really look forward to digging into it at my next ‘weekly review’…
I’m sure the event will pop up somewhere – there were cameras all around. Also – thanks to Tekserve for the free beer, soda, snacks & all ’round cool event!
