Picks from MBW 230: Apple Buys Luxembourg

Editor’s Note: Remember when Merlin Mann would regularly appear on MBW and unload a shit ton of useful apps and how heÃ?â??Ã? used them? Ã?â??Ã? That was one of the reasons I started this site because they came fast and furious (and throughout the show) and if you could get your head around one or two, life would get a tiny bit better. Ã?â??Ã?  I’m pretty sure that’s how I picked up on TextMate, Quicksilver (RIP), Skitch, Transmit, TextExpander, and Superduper.

Anyhoo, looks like he started a brand new podcast yesterday. Ã?â??Ã? I listened “live” and there was definitely a “picks” element to the show. Ã?â??Ã? At the end there was even some cool command line stuff that flew by way too fast. Ã?â??Ã? You can check it out here:

If this show “sticks” and is put out on a weekly basis, would you guys like me to add this new show’s picks and “tips” to this site? Ã?â??Ã? Or, just keep this a clean MBW Picks site?

  1. Bring it on. That’s why I visit here too. Picks are picks. If you could also a single sentence on what the pick is good for too that would go along way to helping understand them somethings if we forget the show. Thanks for the effort!

  2. This is a great resource. I’d be fine with it becoming a place to find picks from a variety of shows as long as they’re all generally iOS/MacOS/Web related.

  3. Please do them as a separate feed; MBW and particularly TWIT are both shadows of what they used to be, despite Andys heroic attempts to actually inject content into the blabber.

Leo is simply spread to thin nowadays, and seem to stumble quite unprepared into the shows. As a result, the content, as it is, seem, to a cynical mind, more as filler between the repetetive ads, rather than content for it’s own sake.

Too bad, have been listening to TWIT/MBW for a few years know, and is saddened by the decline.
If only Dan Benjamin could have the voice of Leo..

  4. I vote ‘yes’ for MM tips. But it will be interesting to see if BtW continues for very long – I guess not.

  5. Sure, add them if they’re decent. Realistically, though, does anyone think MM will stick with his new thing for more than 3 weeks?

  6. Please put MM’s picks on the site. I think that Dan Benjamin will keep Merlin on the straight and narrow. If he can teach him to do a one hr. show and no more, as he did in episode 2, I am hopeful that they will be able to string it out. In episode 1 he did a brain dump of picks and tips, but I would be surprised if he can keep that up for very long. I think that people’s impression that Merlin can’t do anything for more than a few episodes is unfortunate. We’ll see how it goes.

  7. I too am a fan of Merlin’s picks but I would like to see separation between the two sources. I think two feeds would be ideal.

  8. Listening to Back to Work, it’s a different type of show. The real meat isn’t the picks as much as how to use the picks. I think bringing out those points should be the underlining goal.
